Where to Stay in Menton: 4 Best Areas and Hotels
Looking for the best places to stay in Menton? Look no further – I’ve got some great recommendations for you!
I confidently say that Menton is one of THE most idyllic and delightful coastal cities in France.
The town benefits from a unique microclimate that creates sunny and warm conditions throughout the year. Buildings painted in warm Mediterranean hues, lush gardens, beautiful beaches, and awe-inspiring views are plentiful.
That same micro-climate produces ideal conditions for growing lemon, orange, and other citrus trees, and these trees can be found all throughout the town. It’s such a vibe! Lemons are such a big deal in Menton that the city hosts a huge Lemon Festival every February.
On the far eastern edge of France (just 5 miles/8 km from Italy), Menton makes for a great French Riviera destination because:
- A. The beaches here are just elite and some of my favorite beaches on the French Riviera
- B. There are plenty of interesting things to do in Menton
- C. It’s right on the train line that goes to many different towns and cities on the Rivera, making it easy to get around
So, with all that in mind, where is the best place to stay in Menton?
I’ve visited Menton several times, and am quite familiar with the city. I’ve also done extensive research on the lodging options in Menton and feel confident that the recommendations in this guide will be excellent places for you to stay, depending on your preferences and budget.
Let’s get into the details!

Where to Stay in Menton
Here’s a helpful map to illustrate the different areas we’re highlighting in this guide:
Red: La Madone; Yellow: East City Center; Green: Old Town; Purple: Garavan
1. La Madone (West City Center)

The first two areas to consider staying in Menton are the West City Center (also known as La Madone), and the East City Center. These neighborhoods are divided by the Jardin Bioves, a long green space leading from the train station to the sea.
The area west of this dividing line features some beautiful beaches and vibrant, large hotels. While there are still beautiful buildings and a ton of charming buildings in this area, it is the more “modern” area with regular conveniences.
The Menton train station is also located in this neighborhood, and there are multiple parking lots and garages in the neighborhood, making it easy to arrive. You’re only a short walk from the attractions of Menton and extremely close to the coast and beaches.
In this neighborhood, you can find the Jardin du Palais de Carnolès – a public garden featuring a historic manor surrounded by citrus trees. There are also several beaches: Plage du Borrigo, and Plage du Casino.
Finally, just south of the train station are the Menton War Memorial and the adjacent Menton Tennis Club.
Because you’re not *right* by all the major attractions of Menton, you’ll generally find fewer tourists in this neighborhood.
If you’re wanting major major Riviera vibes, this is the spot for you.

3. Old Town

Old Town is the heart and soul of Menton. Colorful buildings line the coast and warm tans and peach colors fill the interior streets. You’ll find narrow, curving streets, staircase streets, charming corners, and amazing views.
Most of Menton’s major attractions are in Old Town, and the most prominent landmark is the zigzag street that leads up to the Basilica of St Michel Archange, which stands proudly at the top of the hill. You can also admire the nearby Chapel of the White Penitents, and the Vieux Chateau Cemetery.
The Marché des Halles is your typical Provencal market, selling fruits, vegetables, herbs, lavender, and all kinds of locally produced products. The Museum Jean Cocteau, the Jardin Du Campanin, and the Parc Plage de Fossan are also nice places to visit.
Finally, Plage des Sablettes sits at the base of Old Town, and is a gorgeous beach with a protected swimming area and insanely beautiful views.
There are no hotels in Old Town, but there are many cute rental options.
Also, this part of the city is almost completely pedestrian-only. If you have your own car or plan to be dropped off, you will need to carry your luggage through Old Town to the accommodations.
